The world was shocked last week at MTVs Video Music Awards as Taylor Swift deservingly got the award for the best female video. However her night and many others watching was ruined when the rather stupid Kanye West stormed onto the stage and stated Beyonces video was much better. The quote all over the net at the moment was;
Taylor, Im really happy for you, Im gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all-time
A big point is that Taylor Swift is not currently bathing in money and although she was successful in 2008 Beyonce has more money. Yet still her video contains an original story set in a closed school. She asked her brothers school if they would let her do the video there. She had spend literally hours of her time planning and asking permissions for various things. In all fairness what was the difference between the current Beyonce video and all of her others. The thing is, a bit of dancing with a couple of extras is what happens in all of Beyonces videos. The thing is that all of Swifts videos to date have taken time, planning and have had a storyline to them. Ovbiously Beyonce spends a long time learning the routines for the videos but they still never seem to be original.
On the other hand it bought huge amounts of people to watch and re-watch the show itself even though Kanye was boo'd off of the stage surely no publicty it bad publicity? Now an important question needs to be asked. The real question is did MTV and Kanye set out to upset Taylor or was it all just a coincidence? Last years event was Russell Brands stupid, rude, arrogant remarks, not much changed this year apart from being toned down slightly. Was MTV trying to get more viewers? Wait and see if something big happens next year, after all three starts a trend.
